Local historian, Tim Hirsch, will review the connected history of Menomonie Universalists and Unitarians, and those from Eau Claire. Beginning in 1865 Bertha Tainter visited Eau Claire to speak at the Universalist church (while seven months pregnant with twins). During the 1880's, Dora Rust from Eau Claire and Bertha Tainter from Menomonie became friends. Both organized Unitarian congregations and sponsored the construction of Unitarian churches. Henry Doty Maxson, Unitarian minister in Menomonie, also served Eau Claire. These threads of connection have carried through into the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Tours to follow.
